Free Webinar on National Electrical Code Changes

NFPA helps educate on National Electrical Code.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will host a free webinar on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm EDT to cover the changes in the 2017 edition of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code® (NEC®), including new articles on large scale power generation, energy storage and direct current distribution.

NFPA_logo.svgThe webinar, “Proposed Changes to the 2017 Edition of the National Electrical Code,” is aimed at electricians, installers, contractors, designers, engineers, code enforcers, AHJ’s (authorities having jurisdiction) and policymakers, and will feature Jeff Sargent, NFPA’s regional electrical code specialist, who will discuss five new articles proposed for the 2017 revision:

  • Article 425 – Fixed Resistance and Electrode Industrial Process Heating Equipment
  • Article 691 – Large-Scale Photovoltaic (PV) Electric Supply Stations
  • Article 706 – Energy Storage Systems (ESS)
  • Article 712 – Direct Current Microgrids
  • Article 710 – Microgrids

“To members of the electrical community, especially those who rely on the NEC, this webinar will be an important resource. It will highlight the changes proposed in the new edition, changes that not only reflect the times we live in today by addressing our continued reliance on new sources of electrical power, but changes that will also have a profound impact on their work,” said Mark Earley, NFPA’s chief electrical engineer.

Throughout the United States and around the world, the NEC sets the standard for safe electrical installation and inspection to protect people and property from fire and electrical hazards. Adopted in all 50 states, the NEC is one of the most widely used codes for the built environment in the world. NFPA has been the developer and publisher of the NEC since 1911.
